Mini-Lessons
The sheer number of ballroom dances can be intimidating. To help with this, ABD
teaches "mini-lessons" from 7:30-8:00pm before each dance. You won't
be an expert, but you will learn the basic and maybe a turn or two — enough to
get out there and see what it's like. The mini-lessons are included with paid
admission.

Austin Ballroom Dancers
Body Choir is a freestyle
dancing experience. Three times a week
you can come to dance! It is not a class. There are no instructors, no
speaking; only music, movement, and people. We are a wide range of ethnicities,
abilities, and ages, and you are welcome to join us! Body Choir meets every Wednesday 7:45pm-10pm, Friday 7:45pm-10pm,
and Sunday 10:00am-Noon

Dance
International holds weekly Sunday parties at the Dancer's Workshop (11150
Research Blvd.) to give you a chance to practice your dance moves in a relaxed
and friendly atmosphere, with Ballroom music from 5:30-6:30 and Latin from
6:30-7:30. No partner is required, and everyone is welcome: beginners, advanced
dancers, or people who just want to check out what ballroom is about. Teachers
will be present to answer questions and to dance with.
They
also hold Tuesday practices at St. Stephen's School (2900 Bunny Run), in the
dance room in the back of the auditorium. These practices are designed for
couples working on choreography to prepare for performance or competition.
You're welcome to practice either Ballroom or Latin, and teachers will be
present to help you with your routines and give you pointers.
The
Tuesday and Sunday practice sessions cost $5 for general admission or $3 for DI
Club members, UT students, and St. Stephen's students. Practice makes perfect!

Each month Go Dance studio
hosts several social dances, including a swing dance, a country western dance,
a salsa dance, and a ballroom and Latin dance.
Other social dance events include the annual Summer and Winter
Showcases, Halloween Masquerade Ball, and New Year’s Eve Party. The studio also occasionally organizes
outings to clubs in Austin and surrounding areas.

regularly hosts social dances on Friday and/or Saturday nights. The socials range from ballroom to country
western to salsa dancing, and include special events such as dinner dances and

The
Austin Swing Syndicate features a weekly dance every Thursday night from 8:00
p.m. to midnight at the Texas Federation
of Women's Clubs (located at 2312 San Gabriel). The cost is $2 for members and affiliates, $5 for
non-members. Every week at 8:15pm sharp
there is a beginner lesson in the side room for those of you who have never
danced before or haven't been in a while.
